A longtime D.C. police officer was arrested Wednesday for allegedly sexually abusing a child, officials said.
Officer Wendel Palmer, who joined the Metropolitan Police Department in 1990, has been charged with first- degree child sexual abuse.
Officials said the alleged offenses occurred when the victim was a juvenile. No additional details were released.
Palmer, a veteran police officer who had been assigned to the Sixth District, has been placed on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of the criminal charges.
